Microbiologist
Dr. Dharmendra S Patel, MBBS, Ph. D (Microbiology-Gold Medal) with the experience of working for the last 26 years in Clinical Microbiology Setup in Vadodara, a medical graduate from Russia obtained his Doctoral Degree in Microbiology from Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology Centre, M.S. University of Vadodara in 2004.
He started walking the avenue of his passion “Microbiology’ in the year 2000 by joining Dr. Suresh Amin’s Pathology Laboratory, Vadodara to work as a full time Microbiologist there under his guidance in his leading Clinical Microbiology setup for four years. Simultaneously he was also recruited for development of Microbiology laboratory and BMLT course at Kailash Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Goraj in 2000.
There-after, from time to time, he found opportunity to work and gain experience for the last 17 years in Vadodara as a Consultant Microbiologist to create Set ups for in-house Clinical Microbiology laboratories and as an Infection Control Officer for obtaining and running NABH accreditation programme at various Hospitals (Bankers group of Hospitals, VINS Hospital, BAPS Hospital, HCG oncology, Paramount diagnostics) and currently for the last 7 years at Kailash Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Goraj.
His areas of focus along with Routine Microbiology are in its application to guide Consultant Doctors for prevention and control of infections with remedies to circumvent them with novel and innovative approaches, especially refractile and extremely difficult to treat fatal infections in involving Tuberculosis and Multi-drug resistant bacteria and fungi in immune-compromised patients. His interest also lie in gut Microbiome and development of realistic probiotic combinations for diabetics and Cancer patients. His work also involve rationalization of antibiotic use through formulation and implementation of Sound Antibiotic Policy and Antibiotic Stewardship Programme.
He holds special interest to lead work in sterilization and disinfection practices and research on anti-microbials like contemporarily used antibiotics and antifungals as well as such properties occurring elsewhere in natural molecules.
He has been fortunate to be a member of various academic boards of studies such as DNB Cardiology at Bankers group of Hospitals, Committee for development of integrated course in Microbiology at Navrachna University, Vadodara and Internal Biosafety Committee for Cell and Gene therapy Lab at Kailash Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Goraj.
